On the 13th May the SCIENT team held an informative event over lunch at the Hilton Park for the Rectors and Deans of Schools and Chairs of Departments of Cypriot Universities from STEM fields. The purpose of the event was to initiate the creation of the first educational entrepreneurship program for future lecturers and graduates in the STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). This program is held within the European SCIENT project. The reason behind the creation of such a program was the need for further research into commercialization issues from the Cypriot universities.
Therefore, the ultimate objective of the event was to encourage the efforts of Cypriot Universities and the exploitation of the research results through innovation, technology transfer, cooperation with the business world and the creation of startups and spin-off companies.
The main guest speaker at the event was Mr. Nick Kounoupias, an IP consultant and solicitor who presented his best practices and success stories from the United Kingdom. Mr. Kounoupias has over 25 years of experience and expertise in the area of copyright protection and the exploitation of research results from the British universities. After the short speech, the attendees had the opportunity to raise questions and concerns during lunch.
In total there were 39 attendees, including Rectors, Vice-Rectors , Deans and Presidents of different Departments and other professors and experts who have been involved and interested in this subject from all the universities across Cyprus.
