Within the framework of the European funded project entitled “SCIENT:A European University-Business Alliance aiming to foster young SCIEntists’ ENTrepreneurial spirit”, GrantXpert Consulting, the European University of Cyprus, CYBAN, Chrysalis Leap, Sigmalive and 10 organizations from the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Germany, Malta and Lithuania, have developed an innovative educational package to help PhD students and PhD holders develop entrepreneurial skills and exploit the results of their research to create new innovative business ideas.
Following the pilot test of the program in 7 countries, the 5 best participants from each country participated in the Entrepreneurship Academy and Best Business Ideas Contest held in Nicosia - Cyprus on 11-14 September 2017. The 35 participants had the opportunity to present the business ideas they developed in the framework of the European project in front of the project jury and the general public. This European Competition for the first time in Cyprus was a unique opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences, but also to network and create new synergies.
The Best Business Idea Competition was held on September 14, 2017 at the Cultural Center of the European University of Cyprus. The first three winners were the Viruscan (UBI-Portugal), Osseoguide (CESIE-Italy) and The cLass Solar Bags (Italy) .The winning team was the Portuguese team with the ViruScan business idea. The idea is based on a sensor that has the ability to accurately and quickly identify any viruses that our body has in order to prevent possible infections or other serious illnesses. The second team presented the Osseo-Guide, which aims to simplify as much as possible the surgical procedures needed for guided bone regeneration in dentistry. Indeed, Osseo-Guide aim is to provide to clinicians a patient 3D specific graft, in order to restore singular bone defect in the oral cavity, based on a computer tomography scan of the same patient. The third team presented the cLass Solar Bags, which originates from the necessity to have smartphones constantly charged. The solution is a fashion accessory with a functional feature that uses renewable solar energy by integrating it into a bag.
