Philippa's research interests focus on the effects of the in-store physical environment on customers, de-shopping, and retail theatre, as well as consumer risk reduction and other aspects of consumer behaviour. This interest in retailing was generated through her management role within Debenhams and later Asda. Philippa is a Head of the Marketing and Retail Analysis Research Centre – where her own research work on consumer behaviour and services marketing is located. These areas also provide the focus for Philippa’s doctoral supervisions. Philippa also continues to work with a number of retailers, manufacturers and marketing agencies as a consultant, and has contributed to a number of in-house retail and service company development programmes.
