Kaunas University of Technology is the oldest technological university in Lithuania, established in 1922, ranked among the top 4 percent of world universities (QS World University Rankings 2013/2014) and 1st among Lithuanian technical universities according to national rankings. KTU students choose their own path of studies, combining different study programmes (in technological, physical, creative arts and humanities and social) to create various combinations of majors and minors. Students (in total 10895 students in 2015) gain practical experience through work placements and internships in businesses, international organisations, and state institutions.
Known for its linkages with business, leadership in scientific research, flexible interdisciplinary study programmes and unforgettable study experience, KTU is fast forwarding to becoming an internationally acknowledged institution of higher education. KTU contributes to solving real problems, carrying out 70 percent of all the R&D provided by Lithuanian universities for business and industry KTU is also founder of two integrated science, study, and business valleys (Santaka and Nemunas), providing open-access laboratory spaces for collaboration among students, researchers, and business representatives to create innovations and form new, interesting partnerships.
